Government departments never seem to get payroll correct. When good people work hard for you every day, the least you can do is pay them the correct amount, on time, every time. Unfortunately, government departments are a huge bureaucracy and even though solutions and technology exist, they refuse to implement them.
This was the case for one of our TPAQ members who had been struggling for two years to reclaim part of their pay after leaving the workplace.
They had contacted HR and payroll multiple times over the past two years, seeking answers and clarification in trying to reclaim the money that was owed to them. Unfortunately, they received inadequate responses, leaving them feeling frustrated and unsupported.
They contacted TPAQ for assistance and were assigned a case manager who quickly got to work, investigating the situation to confirm the amounts owed to the member.
We discovered that the member had indeed been underpaid and had a legal right to reclaim the amount owed to them.
Our team promptly contacted their ex-employer, outlining the situation and requesting that the money owed be paid immediately. The response from the ex-employer came shortly after, confirming the payment amount and resolving the matter.
Our member was grateful to have the issue finally resolved and was thankful for TPAQ's ability to advocate for their rights and safeguard their interests.
Why is the TPAQ different? We believe that real change in education STARTS with empowering frontline teachers, not bureaucrats.
